Animal-Assisted Services: Foundational knowledge for the aspiring K9 Handler (K9AA Handler Cse 1/3)

Ideal for those considering teaming up with a dog in future for Home or Emotional Support, Facility, Therapy or Assistance Animal work, to gain insight and a better understanding of the sector. This course forms the entry point into a range of other K9AA courses that when completed culminates in the K9AA Handler Certificate. For those that complete the series of 3 short courses and become a certified K9AA Handler they will then be eligible to enrol in the K9AA Team Certification course, this includes supervised placement/practical with an approved K9. The K9AA Team Certification course requires supervised training and the mastery of a minimum of 3 tasks that your team can demonstrate that benefits or contributes directly to the teams primary/identified role.

To gain K9AA Team Certification and officially wear the K9AA badge and display the title of K9AA:  Home/Emotional Support, Facility/Workplace Support, Educational Support , Therapy or Assistance Dog Team with K9AA you must have:

  • Completed the all of the K9AA Handler courses and 
  • Passed the K9AA Team Certification course with your approved dog.

After satisfying all of the criteria you will then be invited to sit either:

  • K9AA Public Access Test (PAT) or
  • K9AA Public Interaction Test (PIT) or
  • K9AA Home and/or Emotional Support Test (HEST).

This course is aimed at anyone that is considering becoming part of K9 Team or seeking more information before deciding.

No dog is required for this foundational course.

This course is currently a facilitated course with lessons released weekly and a reflection and lesson conclusion conducted by Zoom.
